The World Food Programme (WFP) has announced that cash handouts for eligible refugees and asylum seekers in Malawi will commence next week.
According to a communiqué obtained by Yetu FM, each individual in a household will receive K18,500 for the month of January under the Cash-Based Transfer Assistance programme. The transfer value is based on a 75% ration, equating to 10.13kg of maize, 1.13kg of pulses, and 0.56 liters of oil per month. Additionally, each child aged 6–23 months will receive a top-up of K3,500.
This marks an increase of K2,200 compared to the cash handouts distributed in November and December 2024. The adjustment reflects the current and projected market prices of essential commodities within and outside Dzaleka Camp.
