Prince Lokendo, an SNHU Global Education Movement (GEM) alum living in Malawi’s Dzaleka refugee camp, has a passion for music, marketing, and helping his community. After getting to know some of the more than 500 talented musical artists living in Dzaleka, Lokendo decided to work alongside the artists in his community to produce and promote their music.
“The more I worked with them, the more they realized the skill or the treasure that is in them,” he said. “Now they put more effort in making sure that whatever is in them should reach the global audience.”
Lokendo completed his AA in Business and BA in management through SNHU GEM and our in-country partner Jesuit Worldwide Learning (JWL), and set the goal of turning his interests in marketing and passion for helping others into a career.
In partnership with GEM and JWL, he was able to intern at a local restaurant, Cuneco Fusion Cafe. Every student at SNHU GEM must complete an internship to earn their degree. Lokendo, like many others, was able to find an internship that not only helped him gain career-ready skills but also aligned with his interests.
While interning at Cuneco, Lokendo set goals for his post-graduation career: “I’m going to turn the skills that I gained from [Cuneco], and I’ll become a good manager or even a marketer in the future.”
After working at Cuneco, Lokendo went on to intern at three other businesses: a data analytics consulting firm, InsideSherpa; a marketing firm, Sizigi; and a software quality assurance company, Siriforce.
After gaining valuable professional experience and completing his BA in 2020, Lokendo decided to utilize his skills to advance the careers of current refugee and local Malawian students. Today, he’s a program advisor for SNHU GEM and JWL. Lokendo has also been able to continue his interests in marketing, helping produce film and podcasts for GEM at Key and Kitestring, serving as a global peace ambassador for Global Peace Chain, and is currently the Club President at LuQuLuQu UNHCR.
His career path is impressive, and Lokendo makes sure to support his community as an academic advisor and advocate for refugees. We are excited to support Lokendo’s career path and celebrate his achievements.
